Let Them Eat Cheesecake

Bonjour home-slices,

This week, our pie-eating experience was far from the royal treatment. Instead of fending off the crowds for a table at Established, we feasted on pies smooshed in cardboard boxes in true peasant fashion.

For the past four weeks, Established has been serving two types of pie: last week's leftovers plus this week's newovers. Today was the first time we bought into this scheme because we were SO downie with the brownie. And let us tell you, we are glad we did because this baked lemon blueberry cheesecake was worthy of the guillotine.

The top film of the cheesecake was overdone, leaving a somewhat burnt taste in each bite. The middle filling had a lemon flavor with a hint of blueberry. One Crusty Gal thinks that today's cheesecake outstrips Established's last lemon cheesecake in terms of its fresh citrus flavor. But whereas the last cheesecake was saved by a masterful raspberry cream, this one had no such luck.  For the Other Crusty Gal, this cheesecake fell flat all the way through. The crust was soggy, the film a disappointment, and the filling dull.

One recurring bone that we would like to pick with Established is that they seem to be confused about what constitutes a pie. Cheesecake is not pie. While we appreciate them branching out, we wish that cheesecake would not impose on our sacred pie Sundays. Instead, we propose establishing cheesecake Tuesday and getting two other wackadoodles to write a blog about it! What do you say, Established?

We must give credit where credit is due lest our heads roll - the brownie (otherwise known as the chocolate buttermilk pie) was once again exceptional.

We have just one request: next week, let them bake pie!

Restez sucrée jus'quà la semaine prochaine,

Les Gals Crustée
