Pecan and Pecan't

Greetings home-slices,

Let's talk about nuts, baby/ Let's talk about cashew and me/ Let's talk about all the good things and the bad things pecan be/ Let's talk about nuts!

As you may have guessed, gentle reader, this week's pie involved nuts. What nut you ask? But a pecan of course.

Copious amounts of sugar presided over the marriage of pecans and brown butter in this decadent pie, and we were lucky enough to bear witness to the joyful pairing. But One Crusty Gal objected to the cloying sweetness of this union! Overpowered by the saccharine display of affection, she had to put her fork down and declare: "I pe-can't!"

The Other Crusty Gal, however, pe-could and pe-did. She raised her fork in celebration of this merry couple, and enjoyed every last bite. But alas, this duo won't be a do-over—she could only stomach so much.

This wedding was as pretty as a picture, in stunning shades of brown and tan and accompanied by a cream bouquet. Layers of toasty nuts sat encased in crispy caramel, and a train of caramel oozed onto the plate. Like a best man who rolled in drunk, hints of lemon juice did too late, and too late.

While this marriage appeared to be built upon a solid foundation, it turned out to be no more than a gooey mess! Guess the First Crusty Gal was right all along...

Stay sweet till next week,

Two Crusty Gals
