Get Ready to Crumble!

Greetings home-slices,

New evidence suggests an emerging trend out of Established's kitchen: passing non-pie desserts off as pie. Now in order for this evidence to be conclusive, we would need to test our hypothesis within a controlled, peer-reviewed study environment. But funding is hard to come by so this will have to remain anecdotal.

Can you tell that these Two Crusty Masters Students are deep in the depths of their dissertations? Surveyland™ is at times a fruitful oasis of data, but often is a dry desolate desert. Right about now, we're stuck somewhere in the middle.

Fortunately, this week's pie offered a gleaming beacon of hope. The raspberry, apple, and white chocolate crumble gave us the fuel we needed to trudge back to the library. The crumble included the pleasantly surprising additions of pumpkin and sunflower seeds, but was lacking any hint of white chocolate (much to our delight). The raspberry apple filling was beautifully tart and of an appropriate consistency.

The downside of this pie is also the only thing that makes it a pie - the crust. Everyone knows that crumbles don't have crusts because they stand on their own. Or rather, are served warm in bowls with a side of vanilla ice cream; a tradition Established would have done well to uphold. But despite it not being a pie, this crumble's berry flavors made it the perfect dessert for welcoming summer.

As we tend to the fields of Surveyland™, we can only hope that the fruits of our labor are as juicy as this crumble.

Stay sweet till next week,

Two Crusty Gals
